Temporary Visas (B, F, M, J, and K Visas)

There are various visa options available for individuals and family members who wish to visit the U.S. on a temporary (nonimmigrant) basis for the purpose of business or pleasure, work, to study, or to unite with family members.

The basic nonimmigrant visa options for individuals and family members include:

B Visa (Business or Visitor Status)

This visa is for foreign nationals who seek to temporarily come to the U.S. for tourism, to visit their family members, or for a specific purpose such as medical treatment or business conference.

The B-1 visa is for those who wish to attend business meetings, lectures, conferences in the U.S.

The B-2  visa is ideal for those who seek to come to the U.S. as a tourist, to engage in social or service activities, visit family/ friends, or seek medical treatment.

F, M, J Visa (Student Status)

The United States offers plenty of learning opportunities for foreign students who wish to pursue higher education in the U.S.  Students who are interested in obtaining a student visa must first apply and gain admission to a U.S. school or university that is authorized by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to accept foreign students.

There are basically three types of student visas (F-1, M-1, J-1) based on the type of program (academic, non-academic or cultural exchange) that the student may gain acceptance in.

K Visa (Marriage Based Temporary Visa Status)

To facilitate family unions and migration of loved ones, U.S. citizens are eligible to sponsor their fiancé (e) or  spouse for temporary  nonimmigrant visas and also petition for their permanent resident status.

The (K-1) visa is for a U.S. citizen who seeks to bring his/her fiancée or fiancé to the U.S. for the purpose of marriage.

The (K-3) visa is for spouses of U.S. citizens who are waiting overseas for their U.S. permanent resident petitions to be processed.
